Hospitality with a Purpose—Part 2

Let’s do an acrostic with the word purpose. We are all busy, right? Our hospitality should be profitable and have a purpose. So P stands for:

P—People Need to See a Christian Home

In 1 Timothy 4:12, the Bible admonishes us to be an example of the believers, “…be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.”

We have all made excuses for our lack of hospitality:

  • Our house isn’t clean
  • We’re too busy
  • We don’t have the money
  • I’m too tired
  • We don’t have a nice house
  • We don’t have nice furniture
  • We don’t have enough room
  • I have small children

But making excuses does not excuse us from being hospitable! Your attitude will make you proactive in this area of hospitality, or your attitude will keep you from moving forward in this area.

One thing that helps is when we stop demanding things of ourselves that no one else does, such as having a spotless house or being the perfect cook. Stop comparing yourself to the little Susie Homemaker or Martha Stewart friend you have.

Tip: Do you know how to keep a clean house? Have company often! It’s so true. It’s amazing how I can clean on my way to answer the door bell! Have you ever tried to see what you can do in just 10 minutes?

Your home doesn’t have to be perfect—just clean, neat, and orderly.
“Let everything be done decently and in order.”— 1 Corinthians 14:40

Remember that new Christians need to see us in our homes. Our homes are not a showpiece, but they need to see that a Christian home has Scripture on the wall and does not have wine racks in the corner.
