In our last article, we began an acrostic for the word purpose:
P—People need to see a Christian home

We will look at two more letters today.

U—Unite Them with Other Faithful Christians

Another great purpose in having hospitality is to bond your new converts or people who are new to your church with other Christians. Help them to make friends. We try to have new people over at the same time we have “old” members over.

There are times when this stretches me way out of my comfort zone. I joke with my husband sometimes because it’s not unusual for him to be the last one back to our house after a service. So, I’m at the house getting things ready and greeting people that I have not even met before.

What a joy it is to see new people meeting other people and making new relationships in the church that will help them to grow in their Christian walk!

R—Reproduce

One reason to have older and newer Christians over at the same time is to encourage the older Christians to be hospitable themselves. Second Timothy 2:2 says, “And the things that thou has heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.”

Teach them to do likewise! It is a great joy to see folks learn what hospitality is all about and then go and do the same.

The ministry is about building lives—not buildings or programs—but people! And I can’t think of a better way to invest in people than having them in your home to encourage them in the Lord. Like giving birth to a child, the work begins after you lead them to the Lord!
