Free Speech Rights

Do Americans still have free speech rights to witness on college campuses? Security police at one liberal city college arrested and handcuffed a group of Christians for peacefully distributing Gospel tracts on campus. What was the group’s crime? They did not have a permit. The charges were dropped the next day, but the group sued the college for violating their free speech rights. The college rethought its position, settled the lawsuit, dropped its unconstitutional permit policy, and allowed the group to continue to distribute Gospel tracts on campus sidewalks.

Christians, like all Americans, have free speech rights. These are guaranteed under the First Amendment. Requiring a permit before speaking is unconstitutional. If you encounter this requirement, contact the Christian Law Association at 727.399.8300, or visit christianlaw.org.
