Living by Faith—Part 11

Sermon outline: This is an abbreviated outline with the complete sermon downloadable at the bottom of the post.

Text: Hebrews 11:23-26

Title: The Refusal of Faith

Introduction: We live in a generation of people who do not understand the concept of refusal.

We live in a tolerant, all accepting generation where everyone is morally allowed to think, feel, and act as they choose. The prevailing thought is that every man should be permitted to do that which is right in his own eyes, never being told no. To say no or to refuse something of someone on the basis of morality or righteousness is considered inhuman, limiting, hateful, racist, and dictatorial.

Living by faith will lead you to refuse three dangerous elements of the world:

I. Refuse Worldly Fear through Faith—v. 23

A. Refuse to fear disapproval

B. Refuse to fear death

II. Refuse Worldly Formation through Faith—v. 24

A. Through identification

B. Through infiltration

III. Refuse Worldly Pleasures through Faith—v. 25–26

A. Choose Christ—v. 25

B. Choose rewards—v. 26

Conclusion: Do you possess the spiritual discipline of refusal?

True faith in God will lead you and I to refuse some things, just like Moses did.

He refused:

  • To be intimidated by worldly fear
  • To be infiltrated and infested through worldly formation
  • To forsake God and reward for worldly pleasure
