Americans view an average of twenty-eight hours of television per week, the highest viewing rate in the world. When an American turns eighteen, on average he has seen 16,000 simulated murders and 200,000 acts of violence. Nearly two-thirds of sampled programming in the 2001–2002 season showed sexual content. You may be very careful about guarding your front door from unwanted strangers, but are you just as careful when it comes to guarding your television?
