I recently shared these 15 nuggets of wisdom from D.L. Moody with our church staff. They were obviously mined from a consistent walk with the Lord and great experience in ministry.
It is wonderful to receive instruction about prayer from men of God; but in this passage, Luke 11, we have specific instruction about prayer—what to pray for and how to pray—from the Lord Jesus Himself.
Did you know there is a book in the Bible that does not mention the Lord’s name even once? Although God is never referred to in the book of Esther, it is a story that has God’s divine handprints all through it.
If you want to be an obedient Christian, you have one of two choices: be the pastor of a Bible-preaching, Bible-practicing church or help someone who is the pastor of a Bible-preaching, Bible-practicing church.
David was in the wilderness of Ziph, a rugged terrain near Carmel that was removed from any true settlement. He had no bed to sleep in, no table or chairs, no recliner, no comforts of home
A few days ago I received a call from my credit card company’s fraud department. As I spoke with the representative, he began to verify some recent activity on my account. As he went through the list, there were two charges that I did not recognize. One was for $1.75, it was an online purchase from some company in the United Kingdom and the other was also an online purchase of over $1,200.00 to some construction company. I assured him those were not mine and he informed me that I was the victim of credit card fraud and my number had been stolen. He then immediately shut down my account and had new cards sent overnight for my wife and me.
Recently, one of the missionaries sent from our church laboring in Europe contacted me. He was discouraged because there was a recent decline in the attendance of his work.
Biblical Principles for Employer-Employee Relationships—Part 2
Those who anger the leader sin against themselves. Sometimes you feel the need to make a point or to stand up for yourself. Even though I believe in having dignity and respect, I never want to forget the position I am in as an employee.
Biblical Principles for Employer-Employee Relationships—Part 1
Think about employment today. The vast majority of employees look for what they can get for themselves. Employers are no different. They try to get more and more out of the employees for less and less.
People are not perfect, and to makes matters worse, saved people are not perfect. Jesus said in Luke 17:1, “Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come.” He says emphatically that offences will come—note the word impossible.
As I write this, I am sitting with my wife at her mother’s bedside in a skilled nursing facility. Having been in the ministry for more than thirty years, I have seen dying people, and it is obvious that my mother-in-law will not be in this world much longer.
There Are Three Responses to an Offense—Only One Can Heal the Damage
Lingering offenses strain relationships between brothers and sisters in God’s family. Remember, we are members one of another, and that connection is damaged by offenses. Satan is out to destroy your Christian walk, divide believers, and weaken the body of Christ.
The Apostle Paul wrote to the church in Rome about their relationships with others. He assured them they could have godly, Christ-honoring relationships...
The Invisible Enemy that Empowers His Visible Prisoners
It was not that there were no “flesh-and-blood” enemies at Ephesus. During the great awakening in that city, Paul had faced the wrath of Demetrius the silversmith, who called together an assembly of idol-makers to protest his preaching (Acts 19:23-41).
The preaching of the Word of God is both negative and positive. Paul tells us in 2 Timothy 3:16, that all Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for:
In life there is nothing more consistent than the passing of time. We attempt to slow it down and even at times make it stand still, but it is undeterred, steadily marching onward. Benjamin Franklin said, “Dost thou love life? Then do not squander time; for that’s the stuff life is made of.”
