The Importance of a Scripture-Filled Gospel Plan

God’s Words Are More Powerful Than Our Words

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17

Make no mistake about it: no Bible = no Gospel. Without the Word of God, we have no place in which to base our faith. We have no “substance or evidence” as Hebrews 11 teaches. The Word of God is the basis for everything we believe. The truths from the Bible govern all that we do. Because of this truth, we must saturate our Gospel plan with Scripture! While we may clarify some “difficult” words and verses, let us be reliant on His Words over our words when presenting the Gospel.

Steps to a Scripture-filled plan:

1. Memorize the Basic Verses Necessary to Present the Gospel

Whether you use the Romans Road, the book of John, or whatever plan you feel most comfortable with; have the basic verses memorized. There are times when the Holy Spirit will prompt you to share the Gospel, and you may or may not have a Bible or any literature to use.

2. Use Your Bible

While Gospel tracts are a wonderful tool (we pass them out by the thousands), there is just something about opening the Bible and showing the sinner his need of a Saviour. Nothing beats it.

3. Highlight or Mark Your Soulwinning Bible with the Current Verse and the Next Verse

For instance, if you typically go from Romans 3:23 to Romans 5:12, highlight Romans 3:23 and write “next Romans 5:12” in the margin. That way you can easily turn from passage to passage without hesitation.

4. Keep a List of References and Verses That Deal with Potential Soulwinning Roadblocks

The more experienced we become in presenting the Gospel, the more Bible we should use. Do not merely share the memorized verses from your favorite passages. Have a “cheat sheet” of verses ready for topics like Eternal Security, Catholicism, Baptism, Illustrations of Hell, etc....

5. Stress the Importance of Scripture to the Convert

As we use our Bibles in our Gospel presentation, we are laying the foundation for a Bible-based Christian life for the new believer. When we make much of the Bible, our converts tend to see its importance. The purpose of the Gospel is to give us a home in Heaven; but it is also to root and plant us in the Word of God so that we may live that abundant life here on this earth. Make MUCH of the Bible!

Great article! Maybe a follow up article is in the works for verses that would be on your cheat sheet?

Robert, thanks for the encouragement! I'll definitely work on a follow-up article!
